Opening of the exhibition Adventure of the Earth at the National Museum of Natural History of Lisbon
Visitors of all ages can experience a unique adventure through the origins of our life and planet in an engaging and long term exhibition. We collaborated extensively with illustrations for the over 300 ft long exhibition wall and with the planning and creation of the phylogenetic tree that includes real specimens!

Congress of the Association Europénne des Illustrateurs Médicaux et Scientifiques
"Visualizing the World of Science" was the theme for the AEIMS conference in Milan, Italy, an enriching experience that covered the most recent developments in scientific visualization. Our presentation was entitled "collaborating with the Smithsonian" and we reflected on the different roles science illustrators perform today

Researchers' Night 2009
This European Union initiative allows citizens to get closer to researchers by promoting numerous and engaging activities. "Setting the Stage" was the theme in Portugal and invited researchers to communicate their work in a theater environment. Opening of the exhibition Darwin's Evolution at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Museum in Lisbon, Portugal
The exhibition celebrates the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his groundbreaking On the Origin of Species. It included our illustration on the famous coevolution example of the predicted moth Xanthopan morganii and the orchid Angraecum sesquipedale

Opening of the Museu of Portimão
The Museum of Portimão is located in the south of Portugal and uses the facilities of an old fish canning factory to inform visitors about the canning industry and the process by which fish is caught, prepared and preserved. The museum commissioned us to create several illustrations that educate on the anatomy of fish used in the canning industry and that are used as appealing decoration for the museum’s exhibition. We participated in the conference with a presentation about the Ocean Hall of the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution and how the illustrations in the animation video about the evolution of whales were produced

II Brazilian Science Illustration Meeting in Curitiba, Brazil
The organizing committee invited us to be part of the discussion panel on the meeting’s theme “Science Illustration and Nature Preservation” and also to teach a workshop on using digital techniques to create science illustrations. We also gave a presentation about the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators discussing its history, events and members

Opening of the permanent exhibition “Butterflies and Plants: partners in evolution” at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC
This exhibition acclaimed by the public features a live butterfly house and the accompanying panels educate on the coevolution of butterflies and plants, screening several examples from nature. The exhibition is decorated with 5 feet wide monarch butterflies drawn by us and mounted by the museum in three-dimensional wire structures that capture the visitor’s gaze. We also produced illustrations of moths and butterflies to create two animations that were played on the exhibition's website

Festival promoted by the Latino Program of the Museum to expose the culture, traditions and natural richness of Mexico. We participated by demonstrating traditional techniques of science illustration applied to specimens of Mexican marine mammals and designed a poster about the mammals of North and Central America

Sponsored by the Invertebrate Zoology Department this course allowed to conduct fieldwork on marine sponges at the station Carrie Bow Cay in Belize. The work consisted of acquiring and manipulating photographic images and video for scientific research

Festival promoted by the Paleontology Department of the Museum to promote Paleontology to the general public. Among the 700 applications to a science photography competition 34 were chosen to compose this high quality exhibition that showcases some of the best science images created in 2006 in Portugal. Wockia chewbacca was proudly part of the display that is now on tour around the country and has been visited by over 5000 people
