Margaret Mee was an artist I would like to have met.
Beyond her extraordinary botanical illustration work, she was surely the wittiest and most resolute English lady to hang around the Brazilian Amazon after 1956, for more than 30 years. She was the only English lady to do that then, actually, which per se says a great deal about her. (more…)

Exhibition ‘Science and Art’

The scientific communication project from the University of Porto Ciência 2.0 promoted a Science and Art competition in different categories – illustration, photography, animation, documentary, multimedia art and fine art. I was invited to be part of the jury. All selected pieces were on display at the National Museum Soares dos Reis, in Porto.

I gladly accepted to participate in the conference ‘Careers in Science: diversity against adversity’ organized by three associations (PAPS, PARSUK and FIIP) dedicated to support and develop the presence of Portuguese students and researchers abroad. The First International Conference of Illustration and Animation took place in the beautiful costal town of Ofir. It was the first international gathering about illustration and animation in Portugal that I attended to be up to date with colleagues’ projects and developments, and to network.
