I will remember the day of July 7 (7-7-2017!) for a long time – the day that I successfully defended my PhD in Digital Media. My deep appreciation goes to my advisor at the University of Porto, Professor José Azevedo, and my co-advisor at the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum, Robert Costello. I am also grateful for the insightful comments and discussion promoted by the jury at the defense: Professor Pedro Casaleiro, Professor Ana Delicado, Professor Nuno Correia and Professor António Coelho. Read about my doctoral studies at the Research page and download the thesis at the Publications page.

The mobile app Skin & Bones was released one year ago! Wow, time certainly flew by. Here’s the beautiful cake we made to celebrate – double layer matcha green tea cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate ganache covering.

The Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences offers one of my favorite monthly events in Washington DC. DASER – the DC Art and Science Evening Rendezvous – promotes interdisciplinary networking between professionals that live at the crossroad of art and science and fosters great dialogue about current projects. Participating in a DASER panel was a fantastic experience and wonderful opportunity to talk about Skin & Bones in the context of a broader discussion about museums and digital media in the 21st century. See the video!

Skin & Bones was the recipient of a Gold MUSE Award in the category of Games and Augmented Reality! The prestigious awards are annual recognition by the American Alliance of Museums and we couldn’t be more honored to be part of the distinct collection of media and technology projects that were selected this year. Congratulations to us!

It’s that time to go to the Museums and the Web annual conference, this year in Chicago. It is one of the best for everything related to museums and technology. Happy to be part of the great program with a demonstration of Skin & Bones and a presentation at the colloquium At the Intersection of the Academy and the Museum.

The mobile app I’ve been working on for two (!) years is out! Anyone with an iPhone, iPad or iPod can now download from the App store and enjoy the rich content about 13 skeletons on display at the Bone Hall, at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. Learn more about Skin & Bones and the project which is part of my doctoral research in digital media. It’s wonderful to see it released and I am looking forward to beginning the research!

Part of the production team of Skin & Bones attended the Smithsonian Digitization Fair to give a sneak peek of the upcoming release of the long expected mobile app. The Digitization Program Office who organized the Fair and contributed with resources for the production of the app has published a nice blog post about the project.
