Women in Science is a photography exhibit at the Pavilion of Knowledge in Lisbon, portraying and honoring over one hundred Portuguese scientists. It is truly an honor to be included in such a recognized group of accomplished women! Beautiful website by the online newspaper Observador on the same topic too. At the International Women’s Day the accompanying catalog to the exhibit was presented along with the exhibit digital kiosk.

The mobile app Skin & Bones was released one year ago! Wow, time certainly flew by. Here’s the beautiful cake we made to celebrate – double layer matcha green tea cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate ganache covering.

Our article “Skin & bones: an artistic repair of a science exhibition by a mobile app” has been published in the journal MIDAS, in a special edition dedicated to science and art. In the article, we discuss the importance of artistic creativity in the production of several aspects of the mobile app Skin & Bones. Look for the article on the Publications page.

I am so proud to say that the mobile project Skin & Bones made it to the top ten selection of the National Science Foundation Visualization Challenge (Vizzies) Interactive category. Vizzies are the awards of the annual visualization challenge promoted by the National Science Foundation, and one of the most important recognitions in the scientific visualization field.

The week before traveling to a conference where I’ll be giving a presentation is always a rush! Heading to Minneapolis in 8 days and couldn’t be more excited about the program and meeting the other attendees and presenters. And best of all, I was honored to be given one of the few scholarships that the MCN Scholarship Committee hands out every year! It is extremely generous support and facilitates the interaction with many other museum professionals. Looking forward to this trip.

We were invited by the Women in Film and Video Roundtable to speak about the development of Skin & Bones and the ongoing research. WIFV is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the professional development and achievement for professionals working in all areas of screen-based and related disciplines; the Roundtable is particularly focused on media production for education.

Packing and reviewing all the details to travel to this year’s Guild of Natural Science Illustrators annual conference, at the Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. One week of catching up with old friends and colleagues, meeting new ones and contributing to the GNSI in the role of Membership Director.

The Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences offers one of my favorite monthly events in Washington DC. DASER – the DC Art and Science Evening Rendezvous – promotes interdisciplinary networking between professionals that live at the crossroad of art and science and fosters great dialogue about current projects. Participating in a DASER panel was a fantastic experience and wonderful opportunity to talk about Skin & Bones in the context of a broader discussion about museums and digital media in the 21st century.
