United Nations Endangered Species Stamps

In 2012 the United Nations Endangered Species stamps celebrated its 20th anniversary. It is an honor to be part of the selected artists invited to design and illustrate the series, even more in a celebration year.

Three sheets are issued annually, one for each UN headquarters, in the corresponding language and currency:

New York ($0,45 stamp value) – Cotton Headed Tamarin, Saguinus oedipus; Oncilla, Leopardus tigrinus; Elephant Eared Chameleon, Calumma brevicorne; Giant Panda, Ailuropoda melanoleuca. The Elephant Eared Chameleon was honored with the Judges’ Special Award at the ScienceOnline 2012 Art Show.

Wien (€0,70 stamp value) – Snow Leopard, Panthera uncia; Bornean Peacock-Pheasant, Polyplectron schleiermacheri; Australian Masked Owl, Tyto novaehollandiae; Axolotl, Ambystoma mexicanum

Genève (F.S. 1,00 stamp value) – Siberian Tiger, Panthera tigris altaica; Tiger Parrot, Psittacella picta; Green Iguana, Iguana iguana; Golden-Crowned Sifaka, Propithecus tattersali

The press coverage was extensive upon the release of this project. The online newspaper P3 published an article, and so did the newspapers Boas Notícias and No Feminino-Negócios. The TV channels SIC and SIC Notícias broadcasted an interview recorded at the Lisbon Zoo about the invitation to the project and its development. The printed and online weekly magazine Visão also interviewed me in the context of an article about Scientific Illustration.
